Marlies Roll Over Rochester With Big Game One Win

TORONTO MARLIES (6) -VS- ROCHESTER AMERICANS (3)

The Toronto Marlies defeated the Rochester Americans, AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres by a score of 6-3 this afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum to take a 1-0 series lead.

Greg Scott notched the first two goals of the game before Zemgus Girgensons cut the lead in half at 18:46 of the opening period. Cody McCormick’s first goal of the post season tied the game at two just over one minute into the middle frame. The Marlies would regain a 3-2 lead on Greg McKegg’s first career AHL playoff goal. Girgensons would tally his second marker of the game before the end of the period. Paul Ranger scored the eventual game winning goal just over five minutes into the third period, while Greg Scott helped secure Toronto’s game one victory, tallying twice more to complete a four goal game.

The Marlies and Rochester will play game two of their first round series tomorrow afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. Puck drop is 3 p.m. Limited tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the team’s ticket line at 416-597-PUCK (7825).
