Forward Keith Aucoin and defenceman Simon Gysbers signed to one-year contracts

Brian Burke, President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the hockey club has signed forward Keith Aucoin and defenceman Simon Gysbers to one-year contracts, respectively.

Aucoin, a 33-year-old native of Waltham, Massachusetts, spilt the 2011-12 season between the Washington Capitals and the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears. The 5-9, 187-pound forward registered 11 points (three goals, eight assists) and a plus-four rating (+4) in 27 games with the Capitals. He also appeared in 14 playoff games for Washington, collecting two assists and two penalty minutes. Despite playing in just 41 games with Hershey last season, Aucoin ranked second in the AHL with 59 assists and was tied for fourth in points with 70. He was named to the 2011-12 AHL First All-Star Team, establishing a record for AHL centres with his sixth AHL All-Star Team selection (Second Team: 2006, ‘07, ‘11; First Team: 2009, ‘10, ‘12).

Gysbers, 25, played 68 games for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies in 2011-12, posting 29 points (five goals, 24 assists) with 20 penalty minutes and a plus-13 rating (+13). The 6-4, 200-pound native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, ranked first among Marlies’ defencemen in goals, assists and points in the regular season. He also appeared in 17 playoff games for the Marlies, registering a goal, an assist and eight penalty minutes.
