The Grand Rapids Griffins defeated the Toronto Marlies by a score of 5-4 tonight at Van Andel Arena. The Griffins now hold a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conference Semi-Final.

Grand Rapids jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the six-minute mark of the opening frame, on goals from Adam Almquist and Jeff Hoggan. In his first game of the post-season, captain Ryan Hamilton would cut the lead in half before the end of period. Jan Mursak would make it 5-3 for Grand Rapids early in the period before Carter Ashton responded for Toronto just over four minutes later. Despite generating late scoring opportunities, the Marlies were unable to tie the game.

Puck drop is 7 p.m. Games six and seven, if necessary, will be played at Ricoh Coliseum on May 21 and May 22.
