Marlies Sign Jerred Smithson

Smithson, 34, has played in 588 career NHL games, collecting 96 points (39 goals, 57 assists) and 354 penalty minutes.

The Toronto Marlies announced Wednesday that the team has signed forward Jerred Smithson to a Professional Tryout Contract.

Smithson, 34, has played in 588 career NHL games, collecting 96 points (39 goals, 57 assists) and 354 penalty minutes. The Vernon, BC native has also played 294 regular season games for Lowell, Manchester and Milwaukee of the American Hockey League. The 6-3, 209-pound centreman skated in 35 regular season games with the Florida Panthers last season before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers on April 3. Smithson will join the Marlies for their 10 a.m. practice this morning at Ricoh Coliseum.

The Marlies return to the ice on Friday, October 18 when they travel to New York for their first of 10 meetings with the Rochester Americans, AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. Toronto returns home on Sunday, October 20 for a 3 p.m. game against division rival the Hamilton Bulldogs, AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens.
