• Alex Nylander opened the scoring on the power play at 3:59 of the first period and later added his second goal of the game at 1:48 of the third period. This was his first power play goal of the season. Nylander has nine points (5 goals, 4 assists) in seven games this season.

HEAD COACH JOHN GRUDEN 

On tonight’s game:
I thought we played extremely well in the first. I think those special teams took us out of momentum when they usually give us some. At the end of the day, I liked a lot of our five-on-five play, I really did. I don’t think we gave them too much. Couple pressed a little at the end where they got a two-on-one but I liked a lot of our game. We have a lot of young guys in the lineup, a lot of young defencemen and they’re giving us their best. We’ll just continue to grow our game. There was still a lot of good to like about that game.

On Chas Sharpe:
He’s a young player that had a lot of goals in the East Coast … When you score that many goals, you’re doing something right. When he gets coming down hill like that, he can really shoot it. He put it through the goalie. It’s one bright spot of tonight for him getting his first goal.

On the upcoming road trip:
It’s important. We have a pretty tight group, good leadership starting with Shawzy, our captain … We get a lot of traction from those trips. We’re all looking forward to getting on the road and spending some time together as a group and just getting tighter and growing our game.
