POSTGAME QUOTES
HEAD COACH JOHN GRUDEN
On today’s game:
The first 20 minutes were as good as we could have played. The only thing is we didn’t get a goal. We needed to get that first one to let a little of the pressure off. We turned a couple pucks over there in the second early and we got away from what was working. You can’t play against a team like that that is structured and has that experience on the back end. You can’t chase. It just snowballed and it’s definitely not the way we have to play. We’ve got to learn and we’ve got to learn quicker.
LOGAN SHAW (1 GOAL, 1 ASSIST)
On today’s game:
It just goes back to our consistency. It’s been something we’re trying to get better at since game one. For a while there it was our starts and then now from the drop of the puck for the last five or six games, we’ve been playing our best. A tie game against the best team in the league we’ve got to be sitting in a good spot and not take our foot off the gas and I feel like in the second period, we kind of did that. We sat back from our structure a little bit and our work ethic. Guys were working but maybe not working as smart as we should. They’re a good team so they’re going to capitalize, they’re going to stick to their structure. They’re doing the same thing all game long. They’re getting pucks in behind the D and they’re just going to pressure, pressure, pressure and make plays when the chance is there. For us, it’s something that we can actually learn from watching them (that) we don’t have to be pretty making plays all the time. Just get the puck in and you’re going to get rewarded by working hard.
On work ethic:
We’re not going to quit. Maybe sometimes we don’t work smart but we’re always working. It’s one thing I’ll say our team does is that we work. Everyone in that dressing room has the tendency to work hard and work hard every shift but sometimes you’re not working as smart as you should and that’s the tough part about hockey is that it’s okay to make mistakes as long as you’re working through them. Our team won’t quit. I know I won’t let us quit and everyone in there has that same mentality is that we’re going to push right to the end. We played two decent games, but we took our foot off the gas for a little bit and it’s a good team over there so, they took advantage of it.
