The Toronto Marlies defeated the Syracuse Crunch 2-1 in a shootout on Friday night, picking up an important 2 points.
Late in the second period, Logan Shaw opened the scoring on the power play with his 29th goal of the season. Late in the third, Alex Barre-Boulet tied the game at one. The score remained tied after 60 minutes of play, so overtime was needed.

The two teams will meet again in Syracuse on Saturday night. Puck drop is at 7:00pm on AHLTV.

HEAD COACH JOHN GRUDEN
On tonight’s game:
We had to understand what the opponent is. They defend, they’re stingy so, we couldn’t cheat trying to create more. We actually had good looks. I liked our patience. I liked the fact that we stuck to our game plan. They got one late there but at the end of the day, we played a pretty solid game, 60 minutes and we got a lot of contributions from everyone and they did what they did as a team to win a hockey game.
LOGAN SHAW (1 GOAL)
On tonight’s game:
It was a playoff game for us. We played a sound defensive game. We didn’t really give them much. Dennis played great but I think that was one of our better overall games of the year. Even in the third, they got one towards the end and we didn’t collapse. They’re going to push, get chances and I think we did the same thing. Overall, it was a hard-fought game and that’s what we were expecting tonight but I’m happy with our group and … how our team played tonight.
